History
Castletown Rifle Club was formed in 1908. The range we believe was in the cellar in Alexander Road. The club continued to function until activities were halted for the First World War. It was 1923 before the Club was reformed and at sometime moved to a range that used to be in a building now occupied by the car park of the George Hotel in Castletown. Shooting was again suspended during the second World War but quickly recommenced on cessation of hostilities. The 1950s saw the club enjoy success in the Isle of Man Rifle Association winter league with club members winning the Island Individual Championship.
The club remained in the range behind the George Hotel until the late 70s when due to Hotel refurbishment the buildings had to be vacated. Land was obtained and following frenzied fund raising and with support from our Club Patron and local businesses the members built the current range in 1979. At that time the range had four firing points at 15 yards. In 1985 an extension was built in memory of our Club Patron giving the extra facilities of two more firing points at 15 yards and two at 25 yards with the possibility of air weapons utilising the extra space.
During our time in this range we have enjoyed many successes in wining the Isle of Man Rifle Association Winter league on many occasions and having had two club members who have become the Island Individual Champion on seven occasions each. We have also had many successes in the Ulster Counties League and NSRA competitions and in individual competitions run by the IOMRA.
